		<description>Well, the truly cheeky answer is - depends on if that&#039;s early Roman, mid Roman or Late Roman.  Early Romans were very tolerant of the religions they found and people were pretty much free to practice as they wished.  Mid-Romans feared the Christians as a destabilizing force since they did not observe the veneration of the Emperor.  It was considered a form of treason.  Also they made a great scape-goat like the Jews in 1930s/40s Germany.  Late Romans were officially Christian after Constantine, so it was all good.</description>
