Dwarf Fortress: Over Achiever

Dwarf Fortress: Over Achiever

This post written by Eric Mesa

Dwarf Fortress is a game that apparently rewards your workers’ tenacity with demons.  It came out in 2006, but this time around I’m not the only one late to the buzz.  Apparently everyone’s been talking about it lately, even Dan.  This is probably due to the game’s insanely detailed stories about the lives of each of your workers.  The fact that the graphics are crap compared to most games out today doesn’t appear to hinder anyone’s enjoyment.  I think it’s because the game is a kind of Fantasy-World The Sims.  You get to know and “love” all of your little virtual dwarfs.  And you get to customize your fortress with all kinds of wacky devices.  I don’t know if I’ll be bitten by the bug, but Dan’s roommate has already expressed alarm that he might be sucked into this phenomenon as well.

Oh yeah, still having graphics card problems on my computer so Iwasn’t able to use Blender on this strip.  I did do it all in Inkscape.  It really is not that bad once you get used to the paradigm.  It’s certainly easier than drawing in the GIMP (at least for someone of my abilities).  I’m hoping to get back on Blender by Thursday or next Tuesday.
