You will be happy to learn that one of your wishes has come true. Slax 6.1.2 comes with firefox stock (i.e. as a base module).

I haven’t read your blog about light distros. Antix is a good one, but you should have a look on Debris (http://debrislinux.org/). It flies on my PII. It’s Debian based.

Hey Mike,

You saved me from emailing you about this. The DVD works fine for me to navigate and use the web interface. Gentoo booted correctly off the DVD. The only problem I’ve had is with Slax. Weird problem, but not worth getting a replacement disc.

Thanks for being the best Linux Mag out there.

I’m the Disc Editor for Linux Format. There’s nothing wrong with the DVD mastering; Slack boots fine with all the test discs I have (and from reports from other readers). If you’d like a replacement, just email me!

It is also possible to use most (if not all) slackware .tgz packages with Slax. installpkg works fine. You can also remove unwanted packages or do some more package admin tasks with pkgtool.

for example, gimp, firefox, vsftpd and many more programs from slackware 12.0 work fine with Slax 6.
